John’s narration of his birth begins on the bitterly cold night of January 10, 1961 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. However, this story begins before his birth. What is change, and when can it be foreseen?
John is born under the hue of the aurora borealis as this story depicts the beauty of birth, the mystery and charm of life, and the tragedy of death.

John spends his early years learning his lessons of life from his psychic classmate, Crystal, and from the stories of an old neighbor, Mrs. Madison. Crystal often knows what John is thinking and what he is about to say. She is a gifted musician, and she composes a song: “Foundation of Tears,” on her flute for him. Years later, a young woman named Leslie mysteriously writes this song again for John. He has many memorable dreams during his childhood years, but one in particular reoccurs throughout young adulthood: A brown-haired, young lady named Amy rushes toward John with her kiss while holding two Standing Room Only tickets in her hand. Much later, Amy urges John to return to Iowa where he will begin to unravel the mystery of the song, “Foundation of Tears.” It is not until Amy visits John in Chicago that she allows him to fulfill his childhood dream with her as she hands him the Standing Room Only tickets in front of Wrigley Field: “Home of the Chicago Cubs.” She is as surprised as he when she touches her lips to his, just as she did in his childhood dream.
