The last of frigid air-masses is poised to move from the Great Lakes to the Northeast with the onset of March. However, this cool-down will be short-lived as rapid warming under a southwesterly jet stream brings normal to eventually above normal temperatures to all but the extreme northern tier of states during the early portion of March. Rapid snow-melt can be expected with this warm-up; some flooding likely in portions of the Ohio Valley and New England.
Although a brief return to the winter pattern is likely before the ‘Ides Of March’, the longer term affects of winter that have plagued the Northeastern States through much of the winter season will not return.
Alas, winter is poised to say ‘Goodbye.”
