About John
John James Lynn was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a youngster growing up in the Midwest, John yearned to touch the stars but discovered that clouds often got in the way. His family moved to Mesa, Arizona during his elementary school years. The climate of the desert valley increased John’s interest in observing weather. He gained an appreciation for the beauty and mystery of the desert sky and the clouds, and later began his training to become a meteorologist at the University of Oklahoma and San Jose State University. Some of his experiences as a meteorologist include the calibration of weather instruments atop the platform near the apex of the Sutro Tower on the south side of the San Francisco hills. Later, John would write his first novel, Sutro, using his earlier experiences working atop the tower as fodder for his developing story. John encountered many new vistas in his line of work, and more importantly, met many new people who would later serve as inspiration for creating his own characters upon beginning a second career writing fiction. Excerpts of his writing have been featured online at the Rice University Glasscock School of Continuing Education “Writer’s Gallery”.
John Lynn currently resides in Houston, Texas. John worked for many years serving the oil & gas industry of Texas and Louisiana while providing weather forecasts. He is a member of the Writers’ League of Texas and the American Meteorological Society.
John’s writing works include Sutro, Standing Room Only, For Posterity, and more recently, El Camino Real, all of which are available online. For Posterity and El Camino Real are also available in print.
